Original red cloth boards, lettered in black on front cover and spine; 316pp. Clean, tight copy, Very Good or better, in the original pictorial dustwrapper, severely sun-darkened on spine (but still legible) and with a few marginal chips; only Good. Novel of Irish dockworkers in the Liverpool slums, based largely on Hanley's own experience growing up in an Anglo-Irish immigrant family during the early years of the 20th century. This was just the second of the remarkable Hanley's many novels to be published in the U.S. (following The Furys, 1935).
