Firenze.: Tipoggrafia Claudiana, 1893. Front free end paper was loose and chipped along fore-edge, now tipped in. All pages uniformly browned with age, no foxing from dirt. Gold titles on spine and front, black & gold decorations, gold illustration of a candle standing on "Biblia Sacra" with "LUX LUCET IN TENEBRIS" all beautifully bright with very little tarnishing. Coloured map of " Valli Valdesi", 20 b & w engravings, 427pp. Signed on half title in ink "Alle mia cara Albina. l'Autore''. "Il Comba, nato a San Germano Chisone nel 1839, morto nel 1904 a Guttannen, in Svizzera, fu grande storico del movimento valdese e della riforma protestante, padre di un altro storico, Ernesto. Formatosi in gioventù a Torre Pellice e, sotto la guida del Merle d'Aubigné, a Ginevra, al ritorno in Italia predicò la fede valdese a Perugia, entrando in conflitto con il futuro Leone XIII, il Cardinal Gioacchino Pecci. Ordinato pastore nel 1863 a Torre Pellice, fu inviato in tale qualità a Guastalla, Brescia, Venezia, dove rimase dal 1867 al 1872 e ai cui archivi attinse vasto materiale per le sue ricerche storiche. Soft-covers and hard-covers without Dj s are covered in adhesive plastic. While we have neither insects nor dampness in our shop, you might find that the total plastic cover keeps both at bay. Covering the whole book means that the common edge-wear described by so many dealers is mostly absent in our books. Any "plastic" is easily removable, it is not adhered to the book nor to the dust jacket. We do not use sellotape nor any other tape which discolours. We restore books where necessary and describe ONLY EXCEPTIONS to a perfect state. Faults in expensive books are described in huge detail. WHEN RESTORED the majority of "faults'' are visible only with great difficulty and certainly NOT in an image. To avoid misleading you we include few images. Please be guided by the very full descriptions. If no faults are described in a cheaper book, please be guided by the Condition. RESTORATION SERVICE. We restore any book younger than 1800 making your grotty, broken old books look like beautifully-cared-for precious old books. DUST JACKETS IN FACSIMILE.
