About This Item
London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1907. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 10" by 8". Edmund Dulac. A very smart, beautifully illustrated edition of these stories from the famous 'Arabian Nights'. Compiled and edited by Laurence Housman, with illustrations by Edmund Dulac. Collated, complete with fifty tipped in colour plates by noted French-born, English naturalised magazine illustrator and stamp designer. Dulac studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. All plates retain their tissue guards. Laurence Housman has retold the classic tales to this work, he was also a noted illustrator and writer during the Victorian era. The front hinge is starting in this copy, as is very common with this large work. With the plates bound to the rear, as called for.A very bright copy of these famous tales. Illustrated by an important figure during the Golden Age of illustration. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spine as well as to the extremities. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm after tissue guard to frontispiece. Tissue guard is torn. Tape repair to the front hinge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Scattered spots to the fore-edge and to the endpapers. Otherwise, just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed
