Gold is the story of the gold fever of 1849 with part of the story set in Panama on the route taken by the gold seekers; The Gray Dawn deals with the stormy era of the vigilantes in the 1850s and the chaos on the gold coast. The final novel in this California historical trilogy -- The Rose Dawn -- shows California's development into its new prosperity through a land boom.
