Casey, acknowledgements, list of illustrations, notes to chapters, three appendices and index of names. Illustrated endpapers, both different, front endpaper : -- showing pastoral runs -- 1864, rear endpaper: -- showing State forests. Black-and-white photographic frontispiece showing timber splitters in the forest near Sherbrooke 1894. The text is illustrated with 52 pages of black and white plates. Green coloured boards with gilt illustration of Fern Tree Gully Shire 1889 emblem. Gilt titles to the backstrip, within a black insert. Illustrated dustwrapper (wraparound) with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. An almost an essential item in any local historian's library. The history of the Dandenong ranges between the years in 1838 to 1958. Minor rubbing of the book corners and softening of the back strip edges. Hint of sunning to the top book edge. Tanning of the text block edges with age toning of the pages. A little scuffing of the top edge of the front end pages – where blue has extruded from the front paste-down and caught the edge of the free front end page. Little rubbing of the lower dustwrapper edges and creasing of the top dustwrapper edge. Small tear to the top right hand and left hand corners of the front panel with a few tears to the top back strip edge with associated creasing. Sunning of the back strip.
