About This Item
1931. Wraps. Near Fine. A spoof on the MGM jungle adventure movie, "Trader Horn", which was released in 1931 and was the first commercial non-documentary movie by a Hollywood studio filmed on location in Africa. This brochure accompanied an anthropomorphic spoof on that movie short entitled "Trader Hound", which was released the same year. The brochure tells the story of the short in extensive detail, and the photos undoubtedly capture the visual charm and style of the film, with the dogs dressed up in human clothes, not to mention a giraffe in pants. Unpaginated, 20 pages, including wraps, inside and out. 18 photographs on 17 of the pages, nine of which are full page (one of these has a smaller inset photo). Photos are modestly colorized with either green or red. Scarce. No copies found in commerce on date of writing this description. Only three institutional copies shown on OCLC First Search -- at Drew, Willam and Mary, and Danish Nat. Library. Light wear. Minor soiling to the cover.
