About This Item

N.Y.: Grove, 1958. Hardcover. Good/Dust Jacket Included. Stated second printing, after the limited edition of 100 numbered copies. This is the first trade edition. 111 pp., octavo format in beige linen with brown titles, first state dust jacket. Both front and rear dust jacket flaps are blank. Some copies have been found with the price stamped on the front flap. This copy does not bear a price stamp. The text is Fine with no owner's name, no noticeable wear or soiling. The dust jacket has mostly intact front and rear panels with some edge-wear, a few short edge-tears and slight loss at tips. There is a one-inch chunk missing from the head of the spine. Also, some tape reinforcement to the inside of the dj in a number of places. In spite of the flaws the dust jacket presents well. Photos available.

Synopsis

The Subterraneans was generated out of the same ecstatic flash of inspiration that produced many of Kerouac's other works. This book centers on the tempestous relationship of Leo and Mardou, and it was written over the course of three days and three nights.
