About This Item
Used book may have writing, markings from the previous owner. DJ has some bumping, tears on the top, spine, edges, corners. Outer edges might have tanning, browning, stains and foxing. It is about a young man, Daniel Boone Price (a high school wrestler), coming of age, feeling the joy and loss of first love, leaving his drab Middle Western Indiana home and going out into the world to become a writer. It is played out against the concurrent death by cancer of Daniel's bitter father. 1982. A21.
Synopsis
Summer Crossing is Truman Capote's first novel, slender and tragic. It was written when Capote was working for The New Yorker. The book was first published in 2005, after it was thought to have been lost for over 50 years: Capote claimed to have destroyed the book, along with several other notebooks of prose, in a fit of harsh self-criticism. The writings had instead been rescued from the trash by the house sitter of an apartment in Brooklyn Heights in which Capote lived in the late 1940s.
