First edition/first printing in Near Fine condition in Very Good+ dust-jacket with short tear on back; In the summer of 1914, Europe was on the brink of war. As World War I drew near, the citizens of various countries began to prepare for what they knew would be a long and bloody conflict. In the small town of Kingsbridge, New York, twelve-year-old Paige and her five-year-old brother, Sam, live with their mother and father. When the news of the war arrives, Paige and Sam are eager to join the fight and help their country win.
