Goodrich was the Connecticut children's author who wrote under the name of Peter Parley. The population of the US is broken down by State, county, and county seat. Significant content on Mexico, Egypt, Russia, Syria, Persia (Iran), Burma (Birman Empire), China & Japan. There is a little Australian & Antarctic content -mostly population updates & description of New South Wales, Van Diemen's Land and South Australia. There is a 4 paragraph description of Capt. James Clark Ross' departure from England in 1839 on the Erebus and Terror to explore the Antarctic, and the discovery of South Victoria Land. 8vo, 104pp. Self wrappers, string bound. With elaborate engraved border on front cover, with illustrations of peoples, animals and famous sites of the world. Covers dusty, slightly chipped. OCLC: 191226676 citing only 5 libraries.
