About This Item

Forestville, CA: Eclipse Books, 1989. 1st ed. Hardcover. Fine. Krenkel, Roy. Full cream cloth with color cover plate. One of the first 175 copies of the first edition, each of which includes an original sketch by Krenkel, drawn in blue ink and tipped into the limitation page. It is embossed with his monogram, this being #72. Every one of these books contains a different drawing, selected from his collection of work done for studies or simply for himself.

Artist William Stout wrote a six-page introduction, "Remembrance of an Old Elf." And here, dated 1974, Stout inscribed this copy to collector Richard Dix, from whom we acquired it. The inscription is dated 1994 in Portland, Oregon.

Profusely illustrated with line and halftone reproductions, an afterword by Steve Ringgenberg, and a small prose piece by Roy. Grouped by subject, illustrations range from studies to fully detailed, finished full page works of fantasy worlds. Chapters cover Saurians, Early Mammals, Sabertooth Cats, Cavemen, Con and the Three Kings, Swordsmen, Tarzan, Burroughs and Pellucidar, Barsoom, and Science Fiction. Double-page (each one different) endpapers.

Fine in very lightly soiled matching cream cloth slipcase, with RGK in gilt on the covers and gilt spine titles. The finest, most special book ever done on the artist. signed by William Stout.
