Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1968. First Edition; Second Printing. Hardcover. Dust jacket is black and white pictorial with yellow badge in the center, repeated on the spine, wrapped in mylar. With light rubbing and toning, this DJ is in very good condition; has minor wear along the bottom and top edges, and the spine; not price clipped. Green cloth covered boards have gilt title on the spine and yellow stained top edge on the text block. There is very minor shelfwear along the bottom edge. Interior pages are clean and sharp. Translation of the original French by Rose Abel Wright, with historical introduction. Tabeau's journal covers his year living among the Arikara, establishing a fur trade in 1803-1804. ; The American Exploration and Travel Series; Book; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall; 272 pp .

Pp. xi, [3], 272. plus frontis and 1 plate; folding genealogical chart. Extensive notes, appendices, index. Green cloth, gilt. A very fine and bright copy with decorated, price-clipped dust jacket (very slightest of chipping to spine ends). Tabeau journeyed to the Upper Missouri and lived among the Arikara in the years 1803-04. Provides human and detailed descriptions of living among the Indians who were almost without contact with whites. Also a complete summation of the difficulties of the fur trade, hazards of navigating the Missouri, etc. He met Lewis and Clark during their winter among the Mandan. Much on the customs and mores of the Indians, trade, religion, warfare, ceremonies, etc..
