London - Samuel Bagster and Sons, 1845 Book. GOOD ONLY. Hardcover. A scarce and fascinating work on theTabernacle, in which the Jews carried the Ark of the Covenant through the desert. Illustrated with four tissue-guarded colour engravings (collated complete), inlaid with gold, silver and brass according to the texts of scripture. Fourth edition. Built to specifications revealed by God (Yahweh) to Moses at Mount Sinai, it accompanied the Israelites on their wanderings in the wilderness and their conquest of the Promised Land. The First Temple in Jerusalem superseded it as the dwelling-place of God. There is no mention of the Tabernacle in the Tanakh after the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple by the Babylonians in 587 BCE. Condition: In a cloth binding. Externally, rather worn, with loss to the backstrip, marks, dampstaining to the rear board and very tender hinges. Internally, binding tender. Ink signature to front pastedown. Pages are quite bright and clean, with just a few handling marks and instances of foxing, and some offsetting to the tissue guards. Overall: GOOD ONLY..
