About This Item

Albany, NY: Joel Nunsell, 1867. 2nd edition. Boards. Fair. 8vo. Contemporary boards. Hand-pressed paper. Deckle edge. Printer's device on title. 204 pp. plus errata leaf.
Front board detached. Rear board split but attached. Interior is excellent. Tight and clean. Pasted inside the front boards is an envelope containing a 4-page manuscript letter from the author dated November 12, 1861. The letter is cleanly torn in 3 sections on the folds and is still easily readable.
This is a scarce book by historian Mayer regarding controversial (alledged) murderer Michael Cresap, who was famously accused by President Thomas Jefferson of slaughtering an indigenous family. Additionally, a handwritten letter by Mr. Mayer is included with the sale. (Howes M451).
