Hardcover. 16mo. 14.5cm, 183p., frontis view and 3 engraved text illustrations, original blind elaborately decorated brown pebbled cloth, gilt spine title & decoration, very good to fine copy (tds). - John Kitto (1804-1854), English biblical scholar, worked as a missionary for the Church Missionary Society in the Middle East and was later involved in the preparation of publications of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. The American edition has been revised by Daniel P. Kidder - ". this picture of the Tahtar tribes is brought to the fire-side of American readers . to compare the condition of the Eastern nomades with that of the aboriginal Indian tribes of our own country." With an interesting inscription: "Presented to John McDonald for his diligence while attending the Presbyterian School in Collingwood. Rev. Robt Rodgers Jan. 1866
