About This Item

Colorado Railroad Museum. Hardcover. New. Casebound and smythe-sewn, with a handsome full-color dustjacket, 369 pages, landscape format 11 x 8.5 in., 461 illustrations, 86 illustrations in Color, 27 maps, 35 plans and equipment drawings, extensive endnotes and index. Colorado Rail Annual No. 34 by Adrian and Art Hundhausen with material not published before. The color images will of course not be photographs, but images of ephemera. This Colorado Railroad Museum's latest Annual is the result of authors Adrian and Art Hundhausen's lifelong interest in the Colorado Midland Railroad. Carefully researched and artistically written, this is a book that fans of the Colorado Midland won't want to miss! The road's history from 1887 to 1900 is detailed, along with the human side of the Midland narrative. Colorful stories found in this new volume include the trials and tribulations of Midland employees, drunken Swedish miners who fell off the train, and a father chasing his runaway daughter to Leadville serve as fascinating examples. Interesting chapters such as ""Spooky Victorian Railroad Stations and Hotels"", ""Ride With a Mormon to Old Mexico,"" and ""Trip With a Kodak over Hagerman Pass"" compel further reading. Salient topics - such as the 1894 Cripple Creek Strike and the Pullman boycott in Colorado - are covered in much greater detail than in previous books. A selection of timetables and advertising brochures is faithfully reproduced, showcasing the vivid color and imaginative illustrations used by CM in the 19th century. Plentiful diagrams of Pullman cars, maps of Midland trackage, and schematics of depots are included. Contents: Prologue: A Rough Neighborhood, pp. 1-8, The Leadville on the ""Standard Broad Gauge,"" 1887, pp. 9-35, To Aspen and the Coal Fields, pp. 36-46, Buffet Sleeping Cars to Aspen, Summer 1888, pp. 47-63, An Amicable Agreement, pp. 64-71, The Rio Grande-Midland Route, Spring 1890, pp. 72-77, A New Owner and Trains to the Pacific, Fall 1890, pp. 78-95, Winter 1890-91: Too Few Passengers, Too Much Snow, pp. 96-104, Bringing the Tourists to Ute Pass, Summer 1891, pp. 105-126, Into Continental Business with Colors Flying, Spring 1892, pp. 127-137, The Flying Dutchman, Summer 1892, pp. 138-143, The Time Card Turns Deadly, Winter 1892-1893, pp. 144-156, A Lethal Rate War, Spring 1893, pp. 157-161, Consolidation, Decapitation, and the Fair, May 1893, pp. 162-170, Silver Crash and the Big Bore, Summer/Fall 1893, pp. 171-178, The Cripple Creek Strike, Spring 1894, pp. 179-192, The Coal Strike and Pullman Boycott, Summer 1894, pp. 193-213, The Last Days of the Santa Fe-Midland, pp. 214-226, Ristine and Bailey Arrive, 1895, pp. 227-250, The Hunt for Through Traffic, pp. 251-275, The Oregon Shortline and the Klondike, pp. 276-284, The Big Rush, 1898, pp. 285-290, The Midland in the Spanish-Ameican War, 1898, pp. 291-302, A New Account for the Great Snow Blockage, 1899, pp. 303-327, Passenger Service after the Snows, 1899, pp. 328-337, The RGW-Midland Combination, 1900, pp. 338-349, Indicies (Equipment, Places, People), pp. 350-356.

I reduce shipping for books that weigh less than 1 lb. with packaging. International shipping rates are quoted for a 1 lb. book. International orders that weigh more than 1 lb. will require additional shipping fees.

All books are shipped sealed in plastic to help prevent damage. Sturdy boxes are used often with bubble-wrap and additional padding. Thin titles may ship in a sturdy mailer with cardboard reinforcing. You will not receive 'rounded' books from Arizona Hobbies as you will from Amazon.com with their shoddy packaging.

A a bar code label with USPS a Tracking/Delivery Confirmation number is applied to your shipment. You will be advised of via email of the tracking when your order ships. USPS Media Mail (books, DVDs, CDs, maps) transit time is almost as good as UPS Ground today. Using a bar code label helps move the mail more quickly.

I've only had only six lost and three damaged shipments out of 20,000+ since 1999. This includes International shipments. I use a freight forwarder for International shipments. Canadian shipments bypass the USPS and go directly to Windsor, Ontario via my freight forwarder. It may take up to 2 weeks before Canada Post tracking information is available as we must consolidate orders to forward.

Defective DVDs will be replaced by the same title if available. Since most of my books are in NEW CONDITION and still in the printers plastic shrink-wrap, opened and thumbed through titles become used and a 20 percent re-stocking/used charge will apply plus the shipping costs incurred.
