About This Item
Based on Symons' tour of duty as a medic with the British Army in WWI. The Casualty Clearing Stations were generally just behind the front line of combat and treated wounded soldiers before they could get to hospitals. It is an anecdotal narrative based on his experiences from 1914 when his company left England for France. His memoir ends at the Battle of Festubert in June of 1915. Author talks about a Canadian Clearing Station ( referred to as the "Canadian Section")down the road in Festubert and how cheery the Canadian troops were despite the hardships they all endured.
