About This Item

Emmaus, Pennsylvania: The Story Classics, 1948. First Thus 1st Printing. Hardcover. As New/Slip Case . 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Arthur Zaidenberg. Connoisseurs of fine writing in all the great capitals of Europe have weighted the brilliance of Merimee's style against that of an expertly cut diamond. His countryman, Emile Faguet, said of the author of the brilliant author of what became the titillating score for the operatic version of Carmen, said of him: "He entered posterity as one enters a parlor, without disturbance; received with the greatest pleasure, without vain effusion, he installed himself comfortably in a good place, from which he will never be moved". There are eighteen fine illustrations by Brooklyn Born Arthur Zaidenberg. Zaidenberg moved to Paris to complete his artistic studies and made his living doing art work for the Herald Tribune and the illustration of many fine books. Book is flawless and unmarked, except for a fine book plate and bound in faux red leather with gilt spine and cover lettering over black backrounds. This book will make a fine addition to any library or a wonderful gift.
