New York: The Macmillan Company, 1947. Stated first edition full cloth hard cover with first state dust jacket showing price of $3.00 vertically at top of front flap. Bump to spine head. Front hinge repair. Pages toned at margins. Clean copy with tips only slightly rubbed. No ownership or other markings. 326pp. Dust jacket is neatly four-corner trimmed at flaps, although $3.00 price remains intact. Shallow chipping at spine ends and corners with several short closed edge tears.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - 8" - 9" Tall.
Synopsis
Tales of the South Pacific is a Pulitzer Prize winning collection of sequentially related short stories about World War II, written by James A. Michener in 1946. The stories were based on observations and anecdotes he collected while stationed as a lieutenant commander in the US Navy on the island of Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides Islands (now known as Vanuatu). The skipper of PT-105 met Michener while stationed at the PT boat base on Tulagi in the Solomon Islands.
