Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, one plate, and a folding plate to the rear. Collated complete. The life of Ulysses S. Grant, an American military officer, politician, and the 18th president of the United States, who led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War. Written by William Makepeace Thayer, an American author and pastor. Bound by Relfe Brothers, London. Bound in full brown calf. Externally, sound with rubbing and light wear to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Cracks to the front joint with a small crack to the rear joint at the head of the spine. Minor loss to the head of the spine. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting predominantly to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Bound by Relfe Brothers, London. Good
