New York: The Durand-Ruel Galleries, 1898. Original Edition, Not a Reprint. Paperback. VG clean, tight contents; covers wrinkled and with green glossy layer peeled from top of back cover and spine edge of front cover; faint ink writing (title) on spine. Ink stamp on title page, "J.D. Smillie Collection." - Smillie was an American painter, and this book was from his own collection. Minor archival repairs professionally performed to missing cover extremities. 3 x 5.5 glossy, pale green wraps with red insignia and black lettering. 53, [2] with 10 occasional red line drawings. Very small; in protective mylar clear jacket. Catalogue from the exhibition held March - April 1898 at Durand-Ruel Galleries in New York featuring the works of Frank Benson, Joseph Decamp, T.W. Dewing, Childe Hassam, Willard Metcalf, Robert Reid, Edward Simmons, Edmund Tarbell, J.H. Twachtman, and J. Alden Weir. 39 works listed in all. A paragraph states, "This little volume, modelled after Les Collections Guillaume, was made for The American Painters at 139 Fifth Avenue, New York." Exceedingly rare, one other copy seen in 25 years.
