Remains of old price sticker back flap with corresponding off-setting on back free endpaper. Pages a little yellowed. DJ has light wear to spine ends.

Blue-grey boards, tan cloth quarter-wrap spine with black and off-white lettering on spine. Boards show faint crayon markings. This four act comedy takes place January 8,1939 - that date being Jackson Day, marked annually by The Tennessee Society of St Louis, which forms the backdrop for this, Taylor's first full-length play. Originally written under the title The Southern Colony, the first act was first published in the Winter 1957 edition of the Kenyon Revue.

The binding is very lightly bumped with the top edges of the covers slightly faded. The dust jacket is lightly rubbed & soiled with its spine sunned. There is some minor foxing to the edges of the rear panel & folds. Half-title, title, [3] leaves, 177 & [2] pages. Very good. <p>First edition, in the unpriced variant of the dust wrapper.

Taylor's fourth book and first play, which captures a day in the lives of a family of displaced Southerners who celebrate "Tennessee Day" in their adopted St. Louis.
