About This Item

London: Herbert Jenkins, 1968. 198pp., map endpapers depicting the sailing course taken by 'Transcur'. B/white halftone plate frontispiece of the yacht, plus two, unpaginated, candidly illustrated leaves. Book clean and square. Spine firm. Minor flecks, otherwise textblock clean. Art-illustrated dustjacket edgeworn and abraded, with short, closed tears. A true story of survival against the odds . . . Frank Mulville, his wife Celia, her cousin Anne, and the author's children sailed an Essex fishing 'smack', built in the early 1900s, from Essex to Denmark, through some 350 miles of the boisterous North Sea. Things went drastically awry, when, in violent seas, they were fetched up aground on the wicked Terschelling Sandbank off the Dutch coast . . . Book weight approx. 420g.. First Edition. Hardcover and Dustjacket. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
