Santa Barbara And Salt Lake City: Peregrine Smith, Inc.. Good with no dust jacket. 1977. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Limited edition of 1500 numbered copies. Reprint of the 1882 edition with original title page facsimiles and introduction by Wallace Stegner. Complete set of two volumes in illustrated slipcases. With original publisher's shipping box. Volumes have a slightly musty smell, slipcases have moderate foxing and soiling. Large slipcase has cracked 6 inches total along on bottom edge. Atlas has light foxing to title page but plates are in fine condition. Overall good. Volume I (Atlas) contains a total of 23 folded atlas sheets including the index to maps. Twelve maps by Dutton, eleven in color, and 12 views by Holmes and Moran, with five in color and five tinted. Farquhar 73: "One of the greatest, if not the very greatest of all Grand Canyon books....The atlas, containing the superb panoramic views by William H. Holmes and a drawing by Thomas Moran, is a rich portfolio of art as well as a collection of maps and an exposition of geology." Washington, D.C.: Government Printing Office. Good. 1882. Hardcover. Includes atlas and monograph. Original brown cloth boards with gilt lettering on both volumes. Bien & Co. Are lithographers of the atlas. Overall good condition. Boards of monograph have cracked gutters, heavy wear to all edges and gilt lettering is faded; text block has light toning and soiling throughout; plates are clean. Boards of atlas have cracked gutters, heavy chipping and loss to 3" at foot of spine, all edges have heavy wear and soiling; first endpaper is detached from text block and has moderate chipping to fore edge; views in the atlas have light foxing and minor offsetting, but are still vibrant. Farquhar calls this "One of the greatest, if not the very greatest of all Grand Canyon books. The atlas, containing the superb panoramic views by William H.
