Maberry skillfully traces the use of the lone star symbol in the nineteenth century and describes in detail the various Texas flags from the Mexican tri-color inscribed with the date 1824 that flew over the besieged Alamo to Joanna Troutman's Georgia made flag, the first to display the lone star.
