The brown covers are in good condition with rubbing at the top and base of spine and general wear on the edges, corners are bumped. Title and author in gold color on spine. The endpapers and pastedowns are brown. A previous owner name and address is written on the front free end paper and there are a few numbers written on the back free end paper. Otherwise, there is no other writing detected in the book. The pages are in good shape, with no spotting evident, one page near the end is heavily creased. The page edges are dirty in spots. This is a thick book, but the binding is solid. The book contains 5 interesting plates: a fold-out map of the U.S. showing lines of equal magnetic declination for 1905, this is creased along a margin that extends from the book; a large fold-out map drawn by O.F. Pearson displaying a topographical practice survey of Sweet Springs, MO. dated 1886; a 2-page plate displaying conventional signs for topographical maps drawn and engraved by Edward Molitor; 1-page color topographical map of the Cumberland Plateau; and a 3-page fold-out map of the Lincoln Mine, Colorado dated 1896, with color.

This hardbound book is in fair condition. There is 1/4" by 1/4" red stain at the top left corner of the pages. It does not bleed through. The pages are free from marks. The binding is cracked along the front paste down page and the front free page. The binding holds all pages in tact. The boards are free from marks. The four corners are bumped. The bottom edges show wear. The head and tail of the spine are torn. The spine along the back and the right and left sides show wear.
