About This Item

Louisville: Filson Club Book. Very Good. Soft cover. pp417-441. Removed from THE FILSON CLUB HISTORY QUARTERLY, Volume 62, No. 4, October 1988. G. In report covers. May include a first or last copied page. Synopsis: "Historians have neglected the unwritten law of the nineteenth century United States that forgave an outraged husband who killed the man who had debauched his wife. Such inattention is especially true of the Thompson-Davis tragedy which occurred in Cincinnati and Harrodsburg in 1882 and 1883. This case demands greater examination not only because it illuminates the unwritten law, but also because it attained great notoriety and controversy.".
