About This Item
London: Thornton Butterworth, Ltd,, 1933. First Keystone edition, first impression, published the year after the first edition. "The broadest range of Churchill's thought between hard covers, Thoughts and Adventures comprises essays on a wide array of subjects, attesting not only to the breadth of the author's comprehension but of his personal experience" (Langworth, p. 154). This copy is from the collection of Churchill's bibliographer Ronald Cohen. The Keystone series reprinted Butterworth's existing works at cheaper prices. This copy is an example of the Canadian issue, with the prices on the jacket excised by the publisher with circular punched holes. Cohen's Bibliography of the Writings of Sir Winston Churchill, published in three volumes in 2006, is the authoritative source for collectors, librarians, and dealers. Octavo. Original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front cover lettered in blind. With dust jacket. Christmas 1934 gift inscription to front free endpaper. Contents a little toned; jacket a little toned and rubbed, prices excised by publisher (see note). A near-fine copy in very good jacket. Cohen A95.3a. Richard M. Langworth, A Connoisseur's Guide to the Books of Sir Winston Churchill, 1998.
