About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. Written in 1892 by Jean Loughborough, Laura Hayes and Enid Yandell, Three Girls in a Flat is a fun and exciting story about three women living in Chicago. Their adventures will delight and entertain you, as they are told in a genuine journalistic style that will leave you wondering whether they come from an actual memoir, or are in fact fictional tales.

The story is far more than just your average drama with shallow characters and a simplistic plot. Instead, the women have very real problems and lives that will captivate you from the start. Their account of the World?s Columbian Exposition is also quite fascinating, as well as genuine, and their escapades through society will leave you wanting to finish the entire book in one sitting.

As far as Yandell is concerned, this story is actually semi-autobiographical, partially summarizing her life ? or at least being based on it as a major source of inspiration. Yandell was an American sculptor who lived in the late 19th century, and studied with well-known masters such as Frederick William MacMonnies and Auguste Rodin.Yandell was a truly prolific artist whose works include numerous portraits, small works such as garden pieces, and even several large monuments. She contributed greatly to the tutorship and success of future artists by founding the Branstock School in Massachusetts.

In the story, the Duke ? a sculptor heavily based on Yandell ? along with Gene and Marjorie share an apartment flat in downtown Chicago during the World Fair in 1893. Their adventures make up a highly enjoyable tale that blends realistic adventures, conflicts with neighbors and intrigues with various suitors in a most creative and entertaining manner.

For modern readers who want a glimpse into the history of early feminist ideals, or anyone just interested in an exciting and highly enjoyable read, Three Girls in a Flat is undoubtedly one of the best books you can enjoy.
