1692 State of Irish Protestants IRELAND William King Church of England Jacobites
"A valuable work, highly praised!" (Lowndes)
William King was a 17th-century Irish Anglican archbishop who served the Church of Ireland. King was a major proponent of the Glorious Revolution and had significant political influence, much of which is evident in his work 'The State of the Protestants in Ireland'. Prior to this work, the Church of Ireland had legitimate fear of facing annihilation by the Jacobite parliament. King wrote this treatise to describe the fears that existed within the Church of Ireland; of which, many of the members had already fled to England. Notable topics King covers in this work include the consequences of the enforced circulation of money in Ireland by the administrative powers. (Webb)

Description:
1682 Bible & Letters of Saint Jerome Catholic Church History Asceticism PARIS

"When the stomach is full, it is easy to talk of fasting."
– Jerome, Epistle 58

Saint Jerome was a 4th-century, early church father. While he was most known for his translation of the Bible, he also wrote a collection of letters which are now known his 'Epistles.' These letters were written on a variety of topics, but most of them were written as warnings against sin and detestable devices such as sexual immorality within the clergy, clothing advised for virgins, gluttony and fasting, and laboring over Biblical texts. These letters were written to and from important men and women of the church such as Augustine, Theophilus, Heliodorus, and the Popes.

This 1682 French edition was published in Paris by Couterot, translated by Jean Petit, and features a portrait frontispiece of Jerome.

"It is never too late to be wise."
― Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe

Called the original adventure novel, Robinson Crusoe was originally published in 1719 and depicts the life of a castaway who learns to survive on an island for decades. However, while it saw substantial success with the masses, there were still those that were not impressed. Charles Dickens said,
"...Robinson Crusoe should be the only instance of a universally popular book that could make no one laugh and could make no one cry."
