First Printing of the Second Edition, with a new Foreword. 5.75 x 8.75in. xxii. 726pp. + "over 100 illustrations made from photographs taken by the party, and with the official maps and charts." Publisher's cloth boards with gilt titling and decoration in silver. VERY GOOD. Shows very slight shelf rubbing of the extremities, one corner has been chipped, last folding map with a short closed tear neatly held together by a single piece of tape, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text and illustrations are clean and completely unmarked, and the boards remain exceptionally bright, colorful, and distinct. As pictured.

Each volume illustrated by a frontispiece and in-text illustrations, volume one with sixteen plates and with four maps and one folding map; volume two with twenty-three plates, two folding maps, and a double-page map. Arctic Bibliography 6118. Greely and his team explored the north coast of Greenland during this expedition. Greely details their difficulties with navigating sea ice, starvation, and what life in the camp was like. The appendices contain geological data of the North Pole, observations of Inuit peoples, and contain information on birds and other animals native to the North Pole. Volume one lacking the free rear endpaper, plates show some foxing, volume two lacks the pocket map.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns.
