The verses include as well fine examples of childlike fantasy by modern poets... it is unquestionably among the most delightful illustrated books of the twentieth century'.

Illustrated with reproductions of eighty-five quirky drawings by Calder. 136 pp. Original linen spine and yellow decorated paper over boards. Boards are slightly marked, browned and bumped, slight rubbing/wear to spine ends and corners, spine ends a little soiled and stained, small split/strain to stitching at top opposite title page, pages rough-trimmed and foxed/browned to edges, blobs of foxing within, more marked to prelims and endpapers, final 14 pages and rear endpapers have a pale oval waterstain (affecting neither text nor drawings) reflected in browning and wrinkling to rear pastedown and exterior of rear board. Predominantly good plus. D/w stained and torn, comprising separated front and rear panels with flaps, and fragments of wrapper spine. Extra postage required.. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Poor.
