About This Item

This is an exceedingly rare copy of the wine book "THROUGH A GLASS LIGHTLY" by T.T. Greg. 1897 1st edition; J.M. Dent & Co.; London. Featured in this book is a rare, early pen-and-ink title page illustration by ARTHUR RACKHAM. Gilt top page edges. The book is a collection of essays on wine, as follows: Port, Claret, Sherry, Champagne, Burgundy, Madeira, Cellars, Glasses, Butlers, The Enemy, The Confession of a Water Drinker. An uncommon item for the Rackham collector. Smaller in size - the book measures 5 5/8" tall x 3 3/4" wide.

Condition:
The book has been nicely and professionally re-bound with modern cloth hardcovers. The original illustrated front cover has been pasted onto the front board; there are foxing spots on the original front cover. Tight binding with no cracks. Both covers are firmly attached. The tissue guard over the title page is loose and is attached only at the bottom. Nice interior - the pages are clean with only a tanned, rectangular outline over pages 53-56 (presumably from a slip of paper left between the pages), and page 86 has a few faint pencil lines in the outer margin. Tanning to the front and rear end papers. The ribbon page marker is present but has detached; the tip of the marker is frayed. Overall the book is in Good+ condition.
