Nelson Doubleday (imprint of Science Fiction Book Club) hard cover with dust jacket, Dec. 1972 edition but later October 1973 printing (code 35P); SFBC #5517, 341 pages, cover art by Frank Frazetta. 8vo (8.5"" x 5.75"") Omnibus of two of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Martian (Barsoom) novels: Thuvia, Maid of Mars; and The Chessmen of Mars. Thuvia, Maid of Mars was first published in All-Story Weekly as a serial in three parts on April 8, 15, and 22, 1916. It was later published as a complete novel by A. C. McClurg in October, 1920. The Chessmen of Mars was first published in Argosy All-Story Weekly as a six-part serial in the issues for February 18 and 25 and March 4, 11, 18 and 25, 1922. It was later published as a complete novel by A. C. McClurg in November, 1922. The dust jacket features a wrap around painting by Frank Frazetta showing a man with a sword defending a woman from a feline predator. These are the 4th and 5th novels in the Barsoom series, preceded by A Princess of Mars, The Gods of Mars, and The Warlord of Mars; and followed by The Master Mind of Mars, A Fighting Man of Mars, Swords of Mars, Synthetic Men of Mars, Llana of Gathol, and John Carter of Mars.
