About This Item

This book has been read, very minor crease on dust jacket, no wear on covers, no markings on inner pages. Spine intact, no creases "No human being has ever lived in closer harmony with tigers than the distinguished Indian naturalist Arjan Singh. For the past twenty-five years he has devoted his life to the study and support of the great cats, and this thrilling account is the result. In a wide ranging historical survey he shows that it was the Victorian Bristish who gave the tiger its bad name: always trying to kill it, they saw the animal only when it was being threatened, and so described it as a cruel and ravening monster. This attitude, continuing far into the present century, reduced tigers to the verge of extinction. Not until the launch of project TIger in the early 1970s did the tide begin to turn. The author played a unique part in the rescue operation, rearing and returning to the jungle a zoo-born tigress called Tara, whom he had acquired as a cub. It is his detailed observation of Tara in the wild, and of the cubs which she bore to a wild mate, that gives his account a special fascination." Good Reads "Kunwar "Billy" Arjan Singh was an Indian hunter turned conservationist and author. He was the first who tried to reintroduce tigers and leopards from captivity into the wild. Arjan Singh was widely honoured for his contributions to conservation. He received one of India's highest civilian national awards, the Padma Shri, in 1995. In 1996, he was awarded the World Wildlife Gold Medal, and obtained the Order of the Golden Ark in 1997. In 2004, Arjan Singh received the Getty Award from the World Wildlife Fund, for his innovative contribution to conservation and for creating public awareness. In 2006 he recieved two further awards, and then the Lifetime Award for Tiger Conservation. He wrote 9 autobiographical wildlife books about his experiences." Good Reads

About Ohkwaho Books and Fine Art

Welcome to Ohkwaho Books and Fine Art. We are a small family-run, independent book-seller looking to share our passion for the written word with the world. We specialize in historical fiction, non-fiction and children's fiction. Above all we value integrity and transparency and are looking for ways to connect with other bibliophiles. Our resident artist is a proudly Metis youth, working to regain connection with his Metis heritage, and much of his passion for social justice and reconciliation may be envisioned within his art. We offer a wide variety of books for sale, both gently used and new. We are also very thrilled to announce availability of a limited number of prints and original artwork by Baz. In addition, we are always happy to connect with you to discuss commissions and other types of requests. Please reach out and let us know how best we can work with you! We look forward to hearing from you.
