About This Item

Vancouver: Prism International Press & November House, 1970. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. 138 p. 24 cm. Grey cloth in psychedelic dustjacket. Some soiling and slight wear to jacket edges. A few dents to book's edges.

Prose by a US jazz musician imprisoned in New Jersey at the time of publication. Intro by Jim Christy. Named after Chaplin's first feature movie, Tillie's Punctured Romance is a series of poetic improvisations on themes central to Leeds' life: drugs, religion, love, jazz, movies, show business. Leeds was serving a sentence at Trenton State Prison for drugs. From Atlantic City originally, Leeds was once a professional jazz bassist who played with Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Al Cohn, Charlie Parker and others. After that he spent time in treatment centres, mental hospitals and jails.
