Publisher's black buckram with gilt titles to the upper board and spine (those on the spine printed inside a decorative red roundel), lacking the dustwrapper. With four decorations by John Craxton. Printed on Millbourn handmade paper, the book design by Robert Harling. A better than very good copy, the binding clean and square, the red top stain unfaded, the boards showing some minor rubbing, mainly to the spine tips, and a few surface stains, most visibly to the rear panel which has a two inch horizontal mark. Otherwise clean and bright throughout. Scarce inscribed. Inscribed by the author to the front free endpaper. Under the owner's name, in blue ink, "David S. Curtis / April '57 / Kuwait", the author has added (nicely linked by rhyme) "too late! / but love / from / Paddy / nevertheless". Correspondence between the author and David S.
