Totaling 56 plates. Most tissue guards preserved. Specially bound in red morocco, the front cover with leafy gilt border, spine gilt to match and gilt-lettered, turn-ins gilt, silk linings, top edges largely unopened, others untrimmed. DELUXE EDITION OF THIS POETIC WARNING AGAINST THE TEMPTATION TO DRINK. Number 10 of 25 numbered copies of the "Edition de Luxe", with stamp of the publisher, specially bound with extra-illustrations. Original drawings by Jean Paléologue are quite scarce, with none appearing in auction records for at least 50 years.

Jean de Paléologue (aka Pal) was a major poster artist of the period. Born in Romania as Jean de Paleologu, he trained in England and was first a magazine illustrator in London. After his move to Paris in 1893, he was a leading poster artist and illustrator, appearing in many periodicals, including Vanity Fair, Strand Magazine, New York Herald Tribune, Plume, Rire, Cocorico, Les Maîtres de l'Affiche, Froufrou, Sans-Gêne, and Vie en Rose. His stylish and sensuous designs are still revered by poster art aficionados. In 1900, Pal emigrated to the United States, and for the remainder of his life worked as a commercial artist-at first for magazines, and later for advertisers of automobiles and the movie industry. This book, then, is one of his earliest efforts in the United States.
