About This Item

New York: Simon & Schuster, 1999. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. The sequel to "Angela's Ashes," McCourt's award-winning memoir of his childhood in Ireland, begins with McCourt's immigration to New York City as a teenager; his career as an Army draftee in Germany; his return to the U.S. to work on the docks and eventually find his way to college, teaching and writing; boards and text are clean, tight, square; dustjacket shows some minimal edgewear. A nice copy.

Synopsis

'Tis is the sequel to Frank McCourt's memoir of his Irish Catholic boyhood, Angela's Ashes. The tale picks up as he reaches America in October 1949, struggling to find his place among the prejudice of the people around him and the alcoholism that rears it's ugly head. The lilting Irish prose stands out in this book against a dark background of constant uphill striving towards some semblance of comfort, acceptance, and contentment.
