Second printing stated. viii+176 pp. The fictional story of a major league baseball game played in hot mid-July; while just a regular season game, it's crucial to Blue Jays manager Barney Mann. Mann is perilously close to losing his job, made more crucial because he had traded away the National League's best pitcher for a promising but untested young Negro outfielder, the first of a number of deals Mann contemplates as he tries to youthen his roster.
