Finland: Self-published, 1947. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. An attractive and early, small drypoint by Tuulikki Pietilä (1917-2009), Finland's most influential graphic artist of the 20th Century. Numbered 3/15 (lower left) and hand-signed/dated in pencil in 1947 by the artist (middle to lower right). Framed and under glass, the frame measures 24cm x 28cm approx. Image measures 6 cm x 9 cm approx. "Merimies Tolvanin" translates as "Sailor from Tolvanen". The print appears to be in VG to Fine condition, not examined under frame. The frame is a simple wooden one with a noticeable chip right edge near top, a couple of other much smaller ones on the surface of the edges and a few other minor marks, condition commensurate with age - likely to be the original.

Print size, 19 3/4" x 24 1/4", image size 13 5/8" x 18", taped in mat at top edge, mat size 21" x 25 3/4". Near Fine, faint marginal creases visible from verso, hidden by mat from the front. Mel Hunter was best known for his science fiction illustrations for Isaac Asimove and Robert A. Heinlein and a successful career in scientific illustration. Hunter moved to Vermont in 1967 and began creating lithographs of the surrounding Vermont countryside. In 1976, after accidental damage to his limestone lithographic drawing, Hunter began using mylar as a medium for his lithography. thus dating this print from 1967-1976. . SIGNED BY ARTIST. Print . Marie Therese Robert was an Art Deco student at 'Academie Julian' in Paris in the early 1930's. The Academie still exists today, and is now known as ESAG Penninghen.
