This is a very well written, intelligent children's book. It's the story of a little boy who takes care of his sister and himself when their father doesn't come home. He moves them into an abandoned building to hide from "Welfare." He knows all the best places to get free food and brings it home for his sister to cook. He finds everything they need. He finds work babysitting and posing for photographs for an artist. Everything goes smoothly until a security guard sees him on the roof.
