Some of the following is stamped in black ink on lower title page: This book was donated to the Victory Book Campaign during WW2. This was a short lived campaign from 1941-1943 that put requested books into the hands of US soldiers. American Merchant Marine Library. USO United Service Organizations - ARC American Red Cross - ALA American Library Association. Serviced by WPA NY Library, else free of former owner writing or bookplates. The very good book lacks jacket, some light surface spotting to dark cloth boards, modest tone/fox spots to endpapers and a small period bookseller sticker on lower rear pastedown.
