About This Item
New York, New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1948. Later edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Very first book (of 23 in the original series published 1948-1966) in the popular YA boys' series featuring freshman sports hero, Chip Hilton, & his understanding coach, Hank Rockwell, both based on the author's real life & experiences. Reissued in the late 1990s, these originals are highly collectible. First published with tweed boards & a DJ (please see our listing #021199 for a copy of that variant), this is one of the later picture cover series from the 1960s. Hardcover 12mo (5" x 7.5") with decorative red paper over boards, in 212 pages with frontispiece & some small internal pen-and-ink drawings. Condition is downgraded to Good because the rear hinge is cracked, as well as the joint at the table of contents page, so that the signature of pages thru page 12 is completely loose. Else, very clean & bright with light soiling & rubbing to extremities. Pages creamy white with a hint of tanning to edges, but unmarked. Very mild rubbing to spine tips & corners. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
