About This Item

Los Angeles: Cannon Films, 1986. First edition thus. "[A] horror film in the form of a tough guy murder mystery." Fifth revision of the shooting script dated October 28, 1986. Filming began on the 27th, so assume the final or close to final draft. Printed on pale pink paper, rectos only. 116 pages with few pages added (numbered "50A" etc.). Numerous pages with "REVISED 10/28" at head and lines marked "(X)" in margins, presumably denoting lines cut in the first read-through. Bradbound in dark blue card covers printed in white. Handwritten title and date on left page edges (no spine). Lacking the center brad, though doesn't appear to have ever had one. Covers worn on edges and fold under torn at lower front brad otherwise very good. According to IMDb, this box office dud lost over $4,000,000 and earned Mailer a 1988 Razzie Award for "Worst Director" (shared with Elaine May for "Ishtar") and Ryan O'Neal and Debra Stipe awards for Worst Actor and Actress.

Synopsis

In Norman Mailer's Tough Guys Don't Dance, we meet a very unlucky guy named Tim Madden.  One morning, Tim rolls out of bed with a terrible hangover, a new tattoo with his ex-girlfriend's name, blood all over his Porsche, and to top it off, two severed heads in his secret stash of marijuana in the woods. Now Tim is in trouble. He has to save himself from murderous attention, as well as figure out who put him in this situation!
