Liverpool: The University press of Liverpool, 1951. Book. Good. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. First English edition (first published in Denmark in 1949). Marbled paper covered boards with title in faded gilt on cream paper covered spine. Condition: Good, with general light shelfwear to covers. The paper of the binding is torn on a one inch section around the title, but is complete. Previous owners name on fron pastedown. Binding sound. 203pp. Many b/w illustrations. In this book the author encourages the reader to look at the city as an entity which expresses certain ideas. He suggests that the individual monuments need to be looked at as part of a whole. The book includes sections on the city as a temple, colonial cities, the ideal cities of the Renaissance, the grand perspective, the Dutch contribution and Paris boulevards. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
