The first edition of this work.Dion Fortune was the co-founder of the Fraternity of the Inner Light, an occult organisation that promoted philosophies which she claimed had been taught to her by spiritual entities known as the 'Ascended Masters'. She is recognised as one of the most significant occultists and ceremonial magicians of the early twentieth century.In this work, Fortune details preparation for - and degrees of - esoteric initiation, describing the training that must be undertaken for access to the 'Higher Mysteries'.Passages discuss the relationship of initiation and celibacy, the source of the esoteric Christian tradition, 'daily life on the path', and 'the alphabet of the mysteries'.
