The front end papers have some pencil writing and a previous owner's bookplate. Overall a nice copy - would be very good if not for the tear along the left edge of the spine.

The book details Twain's journey with his friend Harris through central and southern Europe. While the stated goal of the journey is to walk most of the way, the men find themselves using other forms of transport as they traverse the continent.
Condition:
Clean covers and spine with no stains; bright design on the front cover, the gilt lettering and designs on the spine have somewhat faded; worn corners (the tips of the boards are exposed); 1 1/2" cloth tear at bottom-left corner of the back cover; fraying/wear to top and bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding. Crack at rear hinge. The covers are a bit shaky but holding. Name and year (1883) written in pencil on front end paper. The pages are in overall very good condition with no writing or foxing found; about a half dozen pages have a thin stain at the top edge. 1" tear at the top edge of the title page...no other tears found.
