About This Item
29 x 23 cm- "Transfiguring Prairie Skies" explores the design and creation of the monumental stained glass windows at Cathedral of the Holy Family in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The window themes are eternal: Creation, Covenant, Incarnation, Light of the Resurrection, and Glory. The richly-colored expanse of solar windows at the peak of the building is entitled -Lux Gloria, evoking the unique light and dramatic skies of the prairies. Donald Bolen, Bishop of the Diocese of Saskatoon, shares his enlightening and engaging meditations on the windows, taking us on a spiritual pilgrimage of epic proportions. Sarah Hall's artistic concepts and the process of making these magnificent glassworks are richly illustrated and detailed. The fusion of word and image, glass and light, is simply beautiful and eloquent. REVIEW "On Friday, we picked up a copy of Transfiguring Prairie Skies. Saturday, we read the book you and Sarah crafted. Your fusion of word and image, glass, and light is simply beautiful and eloquent. In expressing our appreciation, we are tempted to pile up adjectives. Let us note, instead, two images and one passage that stands out for us. We do so without prejudice, as they say, of our later choosing any and all of the others. The two images are of Sarah silhouetted against windows: the Resurrection window during production, with green leaves yet to come (page 63), and the Glory window as she points upward (page 82) toward the tree of life. In rereading your words, we found the passage "Pascal Logic" (pages 60-61) stood out. Teilhard de Chardin's prayer about accepting declining years and lessening strength in the Divine Milieu, which we first read when we were younger, now evokes our sensibilities at 75. Your words reflect our searching, longing for, and experiencing God's imprint of life, death, and resurrection within creation, within our world, within us - revealed in Jesus, shining through the windows." ~John Thompson
