Early half red morocco with five spine bands with gilt titles and decoration to marbled boards with matching endpages by W. Worsfold, London with numerous Woodcuts and Chromoxylographic Plates, folded color map; Top edge gilt, 8vo; 8.75 inches tall; xv, 518 pages with an index and 8 unnumbered plates. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear with corner rubs.
Provenance: Helen Gould Shepard (with her bookplate). A beautifully illustrated and finely bound scientific and historical study of the Marine regions. Written with the intention of conveying 'solid instruction under an entertaining form'.
